    IRT-292 /362 -A

Integrated Dryer‑Ashing‑Weighing Workstation for Ignition Residue, Loss on Ignition & Ash Content

                                                                ---IRT Series (Constant‑Weight Determination System)

    Overview

The LabStone IRT Series Integrated Dryer‑Ashing‑Weighing Workstation is a professional laboratory system engineered specifically for ignition residue, loss on ignition (LOI), total ash, acid‑insoluble ash, and volatile matter determination.
Unlike conventional workflows that rely on separate muffle furnaces, drying ovens, desiccators, and manual weighing, the IRT Series integrates low‑temperature drying, high‑temperature ashing (up to 1000°C), controlled cooling, and precision weighing into a single, fully automated platform.
It is the instrument of choice for pharmaceutical QC, food and feed analysis, environmental solid waste testing, and chemical / materials characterization, wherever gravimetric ash and residue methods are required.

    Core Applications

    1. Ignition Residue & Loss on Ignition (LOI)

Determination of ignition residue and loss on ignition in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, polymers, and inorganic materials.
Fully compliant with Chinese Pharmacopoeia (ChP) requirements for residue on ignition and sulfated ash.
Automatic execution of the constant‑weight cycle (successive weighing difference ≤ 0.3mg).

    2. Total Ash & Acid‑Insoluble Ash

Total ash determination in food, feed, cereals, starch, and plant‑derived materials.
Acid‑insoluble ash testing with optional sulfuric acid filling device to minimize operator exposure.
Applicable to coal, coke, carbon black, catalysts, and minerals.

    3. Volatile Matter & Fixed Carbon

Volatile matter and fixed carbon analysis in coal, coke, carbonaceous materials, and biomass.
High‑temperature ashing with programmable ramp rates and inert‑gas atmosphere control.

    Working Principle

Drying / Pre‑treatment: Samples are dried at controlled low temperature (≤ 150°C) to remove moisture.
High‑Temperature Ashing: Samples are transferred to the high‑temperature chamber (up to 1000°C) for complete combustion of organic matter.
Controlled Cooling: After ignition, crucibles are cooled in a water‑cooled chamber under a controlled atmosphere (compressed air or inert gas).
Precision Weighing: A METTLER TOLEDO analytical balance (0.1mg readability) performs automatic weighing.
Constant‑Weight Cycle: The system repeats drying / ignition / cooling / weighing until the constant‑weight criterion (≤ 0.3mg) is satisfied, then calculates and reports results.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the difference between the IRT Series and a conventional muffle furnace?
A: A muffle furnace only provides high‑temperature ashing. After ignition, samples must be manually transferred to a desiccator and weighed-an error‑prone process. The IRT Series integrates drying, ashing, cooling, and weighing in one closed system, automating the entire constant‑weight procedure and eliminating manual handling.
Q2: Why is the “≤ 0.3 mg constant‑weight” feature important?
A: Pharmacopoeia and many national standards define constant weight as successive weighings differing by no more than 0.3 mg. Manual achievement of this criterion is tedious and inconsistent. The IRT automates it entirely, ensuring compliance and repeatability.
Q3: Can the IRT Series perform acid‑insoluble ash testing?
A: Yes. With the optional sulfuric acid filling device, the instrument can automatically add sulfuric acid prior to ashing, greatly improving operator safety and method consistency.
Q4: Which crucible material should I choose?
A: Quartz is standard for most applications due to its chemical inertness and thermal shock resistance. Corundum (alumina) or ceramic crucibles are recommended for strongly alkaline fluxes or aggressive acids.
Q5: Is the instrument suitable for volatile or explosive samples?
A: Yes. The system supports inert‑gas purging and features anti‑combustion / anti‑explosion safeguards, making it suitable for controlled ignition of potentially hazardous materials.
