Electrolytic Moisture & Dew Point Meter - Portable Trace Water Analyzer
Functions
Measure trace moisture content and dew point in non-corrosive, acidic, and slightly corrosive gases.Quantify water vapor concentrations from 0.5 ppmv to 3800 ppmv with 10 ppb resolution.Determine dew point temperatures from −80 °C Td to −6 °C Td.Essential for specialty gas production, semiconductor manufacturing, petrochemical processing, and laboratory research.Working Principle
The instrument employs the electrolytic method using a phosphorus pentoxide (P₂O₅) sensor. A coil‑like double platinum wire with a gap of less than 20 µm constitutes the electrolytic cell. P₂O₅ in the gap acts as a strong desiccant, absorbing trace water from the gas stream to form phosphoric acid. When a voltage is applied across the platinum wires, the phosphoric acid undergoes electrolysis, generating a weak DC current. This current is directly proportional to the mass of water absorbed per unit time. The embedded microprocessor converts the measured current into moisture content (ppmv) and dew point temperature (°C Td), displaying both values in real time.Compliant Standards

Q1: What is the electrolytic method and why is it suitable for trace moisture?A: The electrolytic method uses phosphorus pentoxide (P₂O₅), one of the strongest known desiccants. It chemically binds water molecules and then electrolyzes the resulting phosphoric acid, producing a current directly proportional to the water mass flow. This provides absolute, calibration‑free measurement with extremely high sensitivity (down to 10 ppb), making it ideal for trace moisture in gases.Q2: Can this instrument measure corrosive or acidic gases?A: Yes. Unlike many moisture analyzers that are limited to clean, dry air or inert gases, this meter is specifically designed to handle acidic and slightly corrosive gases thanks to its chemically resistant P₂O₅ sensor and compatible flow path materials. This makes it unique for petrochemical and specialty chemical applications.Q3: What is the difference between dew point and moisture content (ppmv)?A: Moisture content (ppmv) is the ratio of water vapor volume to dry gas volume (parts per million by volume). Dew point (°C Td) is the temperature at which water vapor begins to condense into liquid at a given pressure. Both describe the same physical state; the instrument displays both for user convenience. Conversion depends on gas composition and pressure.Q4: How often does the sensor need to be replaced?A: The P₂O₅ sensor has a finite capacity and will eventually saturate. Typical lifespan depends on usage frequency and moisture levels encountered. Under normal operation with dry gases, the sensor can last 6–12 months. The instrument alerts the user when sensor performance degrades. Replacement is straightforward and can be done in the field.Q5: Is bypass flushing required before measurement?A: No. The instrument is designed for direct measurement upon gas connection. This eliminates the need for a separate bypass purge line, simplifies setup, and reduces gas consumption.Q6: What gas pressure is required?A: The recommended gas pressure is 0.1 MPa (1 bar). Ensure the supply pressure does not exceed this value to protect the sensor and flow control components. An over‑range protection circuit provides additional safety.Q7: How does the battery‑powered operation benefit field use?A: With 12 hours of continuous operation on a single charge and a compact, lightweight design (230 × 90 × 142 mm), the meter is fully portable. It can be carried to remote sampling points, used in areas without power outlets, or deployed for on‑site verification of gas quality. -
Function:
The meter uses the electrolytic method to measure the moisture content or dew point of non-corrosive gas or acid gas.
Principle:
The coil-like double platinum wire and its gap (less than 20um) constitute an electrolytic cell. Phosphorus pentoxide in the gap between platinum wires absorbs trace water to produce phosphoric acid and generates a weak current. The current is proportional to the amount of water absorbed. The dew point or trace water content is calculated according to the measured current.
